Scuttle wasn't bothered by being almost-squashed. It wasn't as if she was squashed. But after a minute or so, she missed the warmth the heat-source had brought for the night. She felt cold. Scuttle curled up tighter, stirring to try to dig herself deeper in the grass where she'd be warmer. Ahhh...

No! No! Aaaah! Her eyes snapped awake. Her heat-source was gone! That meant her protection was gone. She felt a chill ruffle her fur. What if that stupid barn owl...? No, no, surely not... But what if that stupid owl was stubborn enough to hold a grudge against one black squirrel? She wouldn't be able to hear it coming... until it was too late. She wouldn't know what direction it would be heading from... so she just had to keep still and hope that the owl would be stupid and angry enough to blunder if it did anything.

She was shaking.

She lept over the bush gracelessly and stumbled to a stop infront of the squirrel. "Owl's come to seek her little snack." she said boredly and lowered her head so she could hop on. "Unless you want to be Owl-chow I'd get on."

(Angels, I give you permission to wound my char some. Like scratch the heck out of her eye or something.)

Scuttle nearly jumped out of her fur, even before she started to run feeling as though she were dead, but stopped before she continued, tripping in her hasty halt. Her saviour! Her... glowing saviour. She didn't even bother nodding and frantically jumped onto Nova's head (ignoring the eerie glowing eyes and marks, now used to them identifying the squirrel-saving wolf), hurrying to the neck and twirling around to get a good pawhold onto thickets of fur, regardless of any rocking movements that may have occurred if Nova so decided to raise her head the moment Scuttle had jumped on, trusting a squirrel's annoying talent to keep their balance in the most precarious of situations, rather than to wait for her to be securely fastened.

The owl was silent. She was going to wait until they were so tired, they couldn't defend themselves. She chuckled, and waited...and waited....and waited.....

Nova quickly stalked out of the bushes, eyes trailing behind misty fire and her body radiating heat. "Creepy-frickin'-owl" she snarled quietly to herself, tail hanging limply between her legs.

The owl just chuckled and followed, staying hidden.

((Since I'm not involved much in the main storyline at this moment, this is very short. And boring. And undetailed. Don't bother reading it.))

Sand went to sleep- She was exhausted from the run back.

((What about the bears? Two people joined with grizzlies, I'm sure.... Maybe you could rp with them, if they still want to be involved here.))

Scuttle sighed, head, darting around. She hated that the owl was following them, and wanted to know when it would swoop. But her neck was starting to hurt from the excessive use, so she laid her head against Nova's fur.

She decided to ask something she'd been meaning to for a while. "Hey, Nova. Why does your fur glow?" A really cool reason popped into her head, and soon came tumbling out of her mouth. "Are you some sort of forest guardian? That'd be really cool!"

Skyeler couldn't help herself and burst out laughing. "You really think she's a forest guardian? She can't kill a butterfly!!" she screeched. Skyeler thought it was hilarious and stupid. The squirrel has a brain the size of a pebble, she thought.

Before Nova answered, the owl had somehow heard her and screeched mockingly. She blushed, burying her face in Nova's fur. The owl was right. Stupid idea. There was no such thing as a forest guardian. Nova was just a wolf. "Why did you save me, then?" she whispered into the fur.

Skyeler was starving, and found a sleeping fledgling bird in the trees. It was a fairly good snack, being that it was sleeping and an easy target. But she was still hungry, for revenge on the wolf. Because she ruined her snack.

Blue was back from her long trip to Neverland. She walked around the forest floor, seeing what had happened since she left. Some new animals moved in, a wolf, an owl. She then went on to look for food. Maby the mouse still lived in that hole. She went over and stuck her paw in.

Nova blinked at the question, and glanced back to the squirrel. "Forest guardian?" she laughed softly. "That's a first... But, ah no... Not any kind of guardian." she murmured, blocking out the Owl's taunts. "I saved you ...because... ah..." The black wolf paused and frowned.

Why did I save Scuttle…?

She racked her brain for an answer, buy settled for "I don't know, I'm just as curious as why I did as you are."

Because you're lonely. Because after all this time of being alone, you can't stand it anymore. Because you couldn't save your family, you felt like you needed to save that squirrel. Her mind told her, but she frowned and shook her head.

Scuttle smiled. "You're a strange wolf. Most wolves would considered a squirrel as a nice snack, if they could. Not unlike that barn owl." She giggled. "Except... except, except the difference is... you probably wouldn't get a stomachache from biting off more than you can chew!" She buried her head in her fur again, trying to muffle her laughter. She just thought it so funny... a small owl, chasing after a squirrel as big as it head-to-tail-tip... and calling it a "snack!" Ha!

Scuttle had forgotten that said owl was listening in to her and Nova's conversation, and would likely take much offense to her badly muffled comment, and thus, resolve to make Scuttle's death thrice as painful as the vengeful owl had previously been planning.

The owl ignored the comments. She hated insults, and planned to make the squirrels death a painful one.
