Nova sighed dramatically, searching along the edge of the forest to no avail. To go any farther into the forest would make it terribly hard to see and breathe due to the massive clouds of smoke that was being billowed from the angry fires.

Scuttle glanced behind her, and blanched at the smoke clouding the sky on the horizon. She backed away until her paws touched the water. Even though she knew that the fire and smoke couldn't hurt her all the way here, in the open, it still scared her.

She felt like crying again. It was such a strange sensation. The black squirrel sighed, and stepped out of the water. She didn't want to keep her paws wet. It felt icky.
