Thinking about making a game...

Post by Foxesrule »

I was just lying in bed last night and I had a brainwave. To make a game. Don't get your hopes too high though, I might not even make it-Even if I do, it'll be in atleast 2 years. It's a game where you have to be a mythical creature and survive. There are no humans, the only human-like things are elves, dwarves and gnomes. It dosen't have a set goal, you just survive. You'd get all the creatures from the beginning, but I would probably add some special event creatures, like a chinese dragon, the sort for reindeer who 'pull santas sleigh' if he's real. Perhaps even an easter bunny  . If I made it, it would start 2D then 3D. You could get captured by elves or something, killed by knights and whatever. It all depends on what creature you are. This is the list of creatures you would be able to be so far:

Winged wolves.
Gryphons.
Pheonixes (( I bet I spelt this wrong.))
Sea serpents.
Different types of dragons.
Unicorns.
Pegasi
Hippogryphs.
Harpies((A kind of half human half bird.))
Aquatic wolves
Centaur ((Half human, half horse))
Leviathan ((Type of sea serpent))
I really want some help thinking of creatures you could be... :?

Thats all I can think of so far. Everything would have pros and cons. If you were a dragon, if you took some livestock ((Cows, goats, sheep etc.)) one of the pros would be an easy meal, one of the cons would be loads of human-like creatures will try to kill you. If you got captured by human-like creatures it would be possible to escape. It'd probably be singleplayer, but obviously with NPCs. I maily just posted this because I like sharing most of my ideas. Soo, any ideas and/or tips? Or just saying "That sounds fun" or whatever.

Plural of Pegasuses is Pegasi.
And this idea sounds pretty cool... though, it would probably take a lot of time, effort, and dedication to make it. I've seen many games that are thought about, get part of the way into making it real, and then the maker just stops(I was looking forward to Dinosauria, but the maker stopped because he/she didn't feel it was fun).
Good luck with making it, though.
As for ideas... Harpies, Centaur, Leviathan(type of sea serpent). Maybe along with the fantasy animals, you could put in some extinct ones too? Like the Tasmanian Tiger(Thylacine).

I was thinking about extinct animals ((Even dinosaurs...)) but decided if they were added ((If I made the game)) it would be an update in the late stages.

Why not make it multiplayer? And why not have humans? It would be fun to
be a human or human-like creature and go and protect your livestock from
another (troublesome) Player, and maybe even host hunts for them.
Farm, make blah blah.

I had a point.
Somewhere in there.
But I forgot.

I thought that if people could talk, how do I stop them swearing?

If you have the ability to code and design a game, surely you can figure out a filter. ;p
-not that you said you could code and whatnot. But hey, if you're going to make a game... xD

I'm certain there's explanations somewhere out in the interwebs, though. Google's a good friend. :D

A lot of times these game-inspirations end as nothing more than ideas, or die mid-way. You need the time, patience, and passion to complete it. And if you've got a team of designers and someone bails, you gotta keep looking for "replacements" - for lack of a nicer term - or it CAN get frustratingly harder, more of a chore sometimes, and it risks dying because of a lack of encouragement. And it does happen - you get so much motivation, then it ... disappears! I couldn't keep up with the last game-making attempt someone started when I joined it. Regrettably so...

Good luck all the same. Any amount of progress is commendable, and well... you learn at least! And it's encouraging when you DO make that progress. :) Start out small and simple though - get the basics down, even if the first character is a blob, just make sure you can get the basics. You don't need a bigger list of ideas for now, because you'd just be giving yourself a lot more work than necessary. ;p

I mean it all in the nicest way possible. ♥
