Pesticides are killing Bees

Postby webearthonline » Fri Sep 11, 2015 7:06 am

We have followed the die off of Bees here for a long while.
Here is some recent news from earthjustice on the plight of bees.

"Yesterday, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the EPA’s approval of Dow AgroScience’s sulfoxaflor, a neonicotinoid pesticide shown to be highly toxic to bees. Because of this victory, sulfoxaflor will be coming off the market in the United States!

Unfortunately, the fight is far from over. Other neonicotinoids are still on the market, putting bees at risk. Today, I’m asking for your help to fight back!

We’ve been asked to represent beekeepers in another case, taking on the neonicotinoids clothianidin and thiamethoxam, also shown to be highly toxic to bees.

But to take on this and other battles, we need your urgent support!

Takeda Chemical Industries and Bayer AG’s clothianidin, and Syngenta’s thiamethoxam, are powerful insecticides. Like all neonicotinoids, clothianidin and thiamethoxam are absorbed into the treated plant, rendering the plant itself—including its nectar and pollen—highly toxic to bees for weeks.

Miniscule doses of these pesticides can kill bees outright, and even doses that may not kill immediately impair bees’ ability to breed, forage, fight disease and survive the winter.

One-third of our diet comes from crops that require bees for pollination. This category of insecticides puts our entire food system at risk.

The law may be our only chance to stop these deadly pesticides once and for all. We just won a major victory for bees by reversing the approval of sufloxaflor."
