So today I was playing as someone's child, and I wondered if it was rude that I was trying to get full combat before I grew up. This is what I normally do, but I feel kind of bad about dong I because I use more energy, thus using more food. Do you think it is better to try and use less food when you have real parents, or do you think doing this is fine?

I would consider it fine. You're gaining the required skill to survive at an early stage and they're gaining the points for raising you.
