Why do I have to wait forever?

I log in, and the pop-up comes. The Java icon shows up.The blue in the circle of squares is spinning. The bar is not filling up. I've been waiting 7 minutes and the bar doesn't even have a flicker of color in it! What's wrong?

I have successfully downloaded the newest Java version, and it's still not working!

Under the tools menu (normally) open up the Java console and tell us what it says when you try to start the game.

Depends on which browser you are using.
On Firefox it is one of the menu items.
