hollow logs

I want to hollow a log so i can nest in it, but it always says 'you don't have enough strength to dig at this'. So i got 2 of my friends(a wolf then a bobcat) to try and hollow it for me. They got the same message. I know that there are other logs in the world but i really like that one. Is there ANYTHING or ANYWAY to hollow out those logs?

There are certain logs(only 2 i think) that can be entered- the ones that npc bobcat litters spawn in. The others are(I assume) only there for bears to dig at. If a bear does this, the log will release insects that can be eaten. (:
