uh... yeah problems with advanced game

Ok so I bought advanced game a couple days ago when I earned enough points to play as a wolf. I really don't like waiting long periods of time to grow up, so i usually start out by myself. However though, whenever I'm a female and I start out by my self, my energy goes down like CRAZY. I have to leave the safety of my den to find food often. 
And then problem persists until I grow. This doesn't happen when I choose a male. So anyway, my question is, is this a glitch or something? 
It would be nice to know.
